Phase 2: Development and implementation of training processes and knowledge sharing dialogue

In the framework of strengthening maternal-neonatal care with an intercultural approach, the De Waal Foundation conducts training workshops and knowledge dialogues in different cantons of the 24 provinces of Ecuador. These activities are aimed at men and women of ancestral-traditional wisdom with emphasis on ancestral-traditional midwives and midwifery, as well as leaders of peoples and nationalities, and health professionals. In total, 32 training meetings have been held, distributed as follows: 8 corresponding to type 1 or type 2 workshops, 8 to type 3 workshops, 4 to type 4 workshops and 4 specifically dedicated to knowledge dialogues.

The main objective of this project is to strengthen the knowledge, capacities and skills of men and women of wisdom (midwives and traditional midwives) in traditional ancestral medicine, as well as the intercultural competencies of health personnel and social organizations of peoples and nationalities. All this with the purpose of contributing to the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality, through the implementation and improvement of the methodology used during the pilot phase.
