Inter-institutional cooperation agreement between the Autonomous Decentralized Provincial Government of Guayas and the De Waal Ecuador Foundation.
Project summary
The project arose to address the high rates of teenage pregnancy and gender violence in the province of Guayas (Ecuador), linked to poverty, exclusion and lack of sexual health education. Its objective was to strengthen the capacities of 200 rights promoters (from GADs, cantonal councils and civil society) through mediation, sensitization and education processes to reduce unplanned pregnancies and promote healthy life projects among adolescents.
Two hundred promoters (103 at advanced level, 82 at intermediate level, 15 at basic level) were trained in sexual health, teenage pregnancy prevention and the use of educational tools (such as the MSP boxes and the #YoDecido campaign). The methodology combined virtual sessions, popular education and pedagogical mediation. These activities directly benefited 1,777 adolescents through the implementation of training processes for community promoters (272 adolescents) and sensitization with workshops on teenage pregnancy prevention (1505 people). This made it possible to sensitize 3190 people with key messages on adolescent health promotion.
Adolescents developed skills to recognize their rights, postpone motherhood/paternity and build life projects. The promoters acquired skills to replicate prevention strategies in their territories.
Partnerships with municipal governments, rights protection councils and civil society ensure the continuity of actions. The transfer of methodologies (such as toolboxes) and the documentation of lessons learned allow the model to be replicated in new communities.
General Objective
- ZCapacity building through a process of AWARENESS RAISING, PROMOTION AND HEALTH EDUCATION FOR RIGHTS PROMOTERS OF HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS, CIVIL SOCIETY, CANTONAL COUNCILS FOR INTEGRAL PROTECTION OF RIGHTS, INTEGRAL PROTECTION OF RIGHTS BOARDS, AND SOCIAL WORKERS OF THE GAD'S OF THE PROVINCE OF GUAYAS, through the content and use of the toolbox of the "FAMILY PLANNING AND PREVENTION OF ADOLESCENT PREGNANCY STRATEGY - ENIPLA", to generate responsible changes in the behavior and conduct of adolescents, the family and the community to prevent diseases and deficiencies that may cause some type of disability in unborn children and during early childhood and unwanted pregnancies.
